Central Christian College’s baseball team emphatically proved that its Wednesday victory over Bethany was no fluke.
Central made it two wins over the Swedes in as many days on Thursday by pounding out nine first-inning runs and then going on for a 19-9 run-rule victory.
With a gale-force wind blowing out at Light Capital Diamond, the baseballs were flying. Central smashed six home runs, including two apiece by Zane Howard and Nate Patterson. Also homering for CCC were Shomari Cann and Laramie Lumley.
Bethany had three homers of its own, Daniel Perez-Blanco, Joel Quinones and Dalton Bidon.
It was a crazy game as it was 10-6 after just two innings, but the Tigers kept piling it on. They scored three runs in the third and four in the fourth to overwhelm the Swedes.
Patterson and Howard finished with five RBIs apiece for Central, while Lumley drove in three and Hunter Wilcher two. Quinones, Bidon and Robert Eakin all drove in two for Bethany.
Keaton Snyder was the winner in relief.
With the back-to-back wins over Bethany, Central is now 11-20 on the season. The Tigers get back on the field Monday when they take on crosstown rival McPherson College for a single game set for 7 p.m. The teams have split their first two meetings so far.
The Swedes, now 17-14, are home this weekend for a three-game series with Friends. Two games will be played on Saturday, with first pitch 1 p.m. A single game is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
