Vikings capture baseball opener

LINDSBORG — Ben Weldy threw a solid game for Smoky Valley in the Vikings’ baseball debut on Tuesday as they captured a 5-2 victory over Ell-Saline.

The Vikes trailed 1-0 until the fourth inning when they plated two runs to take a 2-1 lead. They added three more runs in the fifth.

Zach Able had two hits to lead the way, while Austin Lustfield drove in two runs.

Game 2 was rained out.
