WICHITA — It was maybe the two most impressive wins of the year Saturday for the McPherson College baseball team.

Friends is among the KCAC leaders and receiving votes in the NAIA national poll, but the Bulldogs went into Lawrence-Dumont Stadium to pull off a stunning sweep.

It was a remarkable day on the mound for Mac, which captured 6-1 and 2-1 victories to move to 6-9 in the KCAC and 15-22 overall as it won the three-game series, 2-1.

• Mac 6, Friends 1 — In the nine-inning opener, the Bulldogs’ Matthew Green did yeoman work as he went the distance, scattering seven hits and fanning six.

All the offense he needed was provided in the first inning with three runs.

Dylan Fontenot and Jakob Shields laced three hits apiece to lead the Bulldogs. Mac pinged out 11 singles in the contest and defensively did not make an error in the field.

• Mac 2, Friends 1 — Dylan Klava is regarded as the Bulldogs’ ace and he turned in a performance certainly worth of that status.

Klava tossed 6 1/3 innings of five-hit, one-run ball before Soren Yarnall came on to nail down the final two outs. The Bulldogs were held to four hits, but squeezed out the two runs for the win.

Mac hosts Kansas Wesleyan for three games next weekend, two games on Saturday and a single game Sunday.
