EL DORADO — Tough playing conditions sent scores soaring Monday in the El Dorado Invitational Golf Tournament at Prairie Trails Golf Course.

Amazingly, only three golfers broke 90 and the winning team score was 358, which was by Emporia. Circle was the only other team to break 400 with a 397.

McPherson High — in its first meet of the year — was without standout Jacob Lackey, whose first meet will be Thursday in the McPherson Invitational. The Bullpups were fourth out of seven teams with a 415.

MHS’ Colton Geren just missed the Top 10 with a 100. Other Bullpup scores were Drew Labertew (103), Kyler Hoppes (105) Hayes Schmid (107), Brock Malm (116) and Tyler Hoxie (120).

Emporia’s Gentry Scheve was medalist with an 81, one stroke better than teammate Collin Hopkins. Winfield’s Andy Burger shot 83, the only other golfer who broke 90 as the cold and wet conditions made things miserable.
