WICHITA — Central Christian College’s men’s tennis team nearly broke through for its first victory of the season earlier this week, but was edged 5-4 by Friends.

It was a good day for McPherson High grad and former state champion Gallagher Martin, who won at No. 4 singles and combined with Brandon Lamanche for a victory at No. 2 doubles.

Carlos Padilla and Andres Padilla accounted for the Tigers’ other points as they were victorious at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

The teams split the six singles matches, with Friends winning two of three at doubles.

Central is scheduled to play Thursday at Hesston.
