WELLINGTON — Hesston High’s golf team, coming off a second-place state performance from last year, finished sixth out of 10 teams Thursday in the Wellington Invitational.
The 3A Swathers were the smallest school in the field, which included 5A and 4A schools. They shot a 356.
Potential state champion Andover led the way with a 300 to win by a whopping 42 shots over Augusta and Goddard Eisenhower.
Hesston’s Grant Brenneman showed that he could be a 3A title contender with a 76, good for fourth place. Andover’s Zack Sokolosky was medalist with a 71, with teammate Patrick Chan right behind with 73. Rose Hill’s Peyton Austin shot 75 to edge Brenneman by a stroke.
Other Hesston scores were Trevor Koehn (88), Tanner Bachman (96), Kitt Regier (96), Jordan Roth (97) and Tyler Bachman (99).
