McPherson College’s softball team made it four straight KCAC victories on Sunday as it followed up Saturday’s sweep of Bethel with a pair of come-from-behind victories over York College at Wall Park.
Mac is now 4-5 in the KCAC and 18-17 overall, that after finishing 9-39 last season. It’s a brutal stretch the Bulldogs are in as they go to Sterling on Tuesday and Ottawa on Thursday before coming back home Friday to take on Southwestern.
• Mac 3, York 2 — After doing next-to-nothing for six innings, trailing 2-1, the Bulldogs stunned the Panthers with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win.
Judith Salazar tied the game with an RBI single that scored Chelsea Conrad, then Kortney Jones delivered the game-winning hit to score Jessica Jones.
Christie Betker picked up another win on the mound, scattering eight hits over the seven innings.
Mac actually had 10 hits in the game despite the low run total. Salazar and Jessica Jones had three apiece and Azaria Romero had two.
• Mac 12, York 9 — It was a fluctuating game as Mac trailed 5-0 before scoring seven times in the fourth. However, York regained the lead with four runs in the sixth, only to see Mac explode for five in the bottom of the inning.
The Bulldogs crushed it with 18 hits. Leaders were Jessica Jones (three hits), Ali Smith (two hits, three RBIs), Kortney Jones (two hits), Katie Holmes (two hits), Romero (three hits) and Amanda Connell (three hits).
Betker was the winner in relief as four Mac pitchers threw in all. She is now 11-7 on the year.
