NORTH NEWTON — McPherson High’s boys took third place Monday in the Newton Invitational Track and Field Meet, while the girls finished fourth.

The boys scored 116 points, with Newton winning the title with 201 as it’s one of the best teams in Class 5A. The Railer girls are also loaded, winning that division with 206 points while the Bullpups scored 83.

“We finally got a good night to compete weather-wise,” MHS coach Jace Pavlovich said. “Our kids performed well. We had a ton of personal records fall once again. It was good to see some different teams last night.”

It was a big day as usual for Elle Barrett, who again doubled in the long and triple jumps. MHS is still without defending state high jump champion Mandi Cooks, out with a patella injury.

For the boys, the lone first came from Andric McGill in the high jump.

MHS competes Thursday at Lindsborg in the Smoky Valley Invitational.
