LINDSBORG — Undefeated Kingman ran its softball record to 8-0 on Tuesday by sweeping Smoky Valley, ending the Vikings’ four-game winning streak in the process.
Game 1 went the Eagles’ way 11-6, keyed by a four-run third inning. The Vikes were down 11-2 going into the seventh, but showed some grit by scoring four times.
Megan Sample took the loss. Offensive leaders for the Vikes were Teagan Miller (two runs), Katie Bellah (two hits), Jordan Otto (two hits) and Kira Haxton (three hits, one a triple, three RBIs).
The Vikes appeared to have a split in their grasp, but the Eagles scored twice in the top of the seventh for a come-from-behind 8-7 victory.
Smoky Valley led 7-3 after three innings, but Kingman chipped away. Otto took the loss.
Leaders for the Vikings were Miller (double, two runs scored), Bellah (homer), Jacque Hulse (four hits, homer, three RBIs), Otto (two runs) and Sample (two hits, two runs).
Smoky Valley is now 4-4 as it has swept two twinbills and been swept in two others. It plays Tuesday at Hoisington.
