HALSTEAD — Hesston High’s softball team notched its first two victories of the year on Tuesday with a sweep of Halstead.
Hesston scored 11 runs in the first three innings of Game 1 and made that stand up for an 11-1 victory.
Alaina Dunlavy, Emily Shirley and Kailey Jo Ince had huge games. Dunlavy was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, while Shirley came up with three hits and three RBIs. Ince had two hits, one a triple, and drove in three runs.
Kayla Ewert threw a nifty two-hitter to earn the win.
Hesston started strong in Game 2 as well, leading 13-1 after 1 1/2 innings before settling for a 14-9 victory. Shirley stayed hot by going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Rylie Schilling added two hits and three RBIs. Kylie Evancho was the winner in relief.
