HESSTON — In a triangular of top tennis teams in Class 3-2-1A on Friday, Hesston High finished the day 1-1.
The Swathers lost 8-1 to Central Plains, but took care of Conway Springs, 7-2.
“Central Plains has a really solid team,” Hesston coach Mark Dahlsten said. “The team score would indicate they blew us out, however there were several matches that could have gone our way if we had gotten two or three key points.”
The Swather win came at No. 1 doubles as Jorge Morales and Jeb Carlson were an 8-7 winner. All the doubles matches were close as the Swathers’ two losses were by 8-6 counts. The Swathers also lost an 8-6 decision in singles.
Against Conway Springs, the Swathers were 3-0 in doubles and 4-2 in singles, with wins by Morales, Carlson, Logan Gamble and Isaac Decker.
“We bounced back from the Central Plains dual and played very well against Conway,” Dahlsten said. “By the afternoon the wind was brutal, but our kids just played through it. I was pleased that all of our kids were able to win at least one match today.”
