HILLSBORO – Hesston High boys tennis coach Mark Dahlsten shuffled his lineup Tuesday, but there was no change in the result — another Swather victory.
Class 3-2-1A’s No. 4-ranked team scored 63 points to edge Wichita Trinity, which scored 61. Pratt (44) was third and Sacred Heart (35) rounded out the Top 4. There were eight teams in all.
The No. 1 doubles team of Will Rizza and Brendan Boles was 3-0, with a good 8-6 win in the finals over Wichita Trinity’s top team after trailing 5-1. “They played well all day,” Dahlsten said. “They are starting to figure out how to play pretty good doubles.”
The No. 2 team of Aaron Fuqua and Reuben Stoner-Peachy took second with a 2-1 record. Both singles entries, No. 1 Jeb Carlson and No. 2 Ethan Moran, were 2-1 for second. Carlson had to play Sacred Heart’s probable state champion Stratton Brown in the finals. Brown did not lose a single game all day.
“We got to show off our depth today as we were able to win the tournament with many of our regulars not playing,” Dahlsten said. “The guys played hard and did a lot of good things today.”
