BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Oklahoma Wesleyan is at the top of the KCAC softball standings, but McPherson College played right with the Eagles on Wednesday.

However, they couldn’t get over the hump in either game, losing 3-0 and 5-4 decisions. Mac dropped just under .500 in the KCAC at 8-9 and is 22-21 on the season. Mac is supposed to complete a suspended game tonight against Saint Mary, but the rain on Wednesday probably has rendered the field unplayable. The Bulldogs host Bethany at 1 p.m. Saturday.

“We played well overall," Mac coach Ashley Spencer. "But we had a few missed opportunities to score. Our pitchers both threw well today, but our offense must execute in order for us to win."

Wesleyan is now 13-3 in the KCAC, a half-game ahead of  Friends.

• Oklahoma Wesleyan 3, Mac 0 — The Eagles’ Kaylee Clinton hit a two-run homer in the first inning that proved to be all the runs they needed.

Mac ace Christie Betker pitched well in defeat, allowing just five hits and striking out five. But the Bulldogs could manage only five hits themselves, two by Ali Smith.

• Oklahoma Wesleyan 5, Mac 4 (8 innings) — Mac scored a run in the sixth to tie the game, but the Eagles eventually won it in walk-off fashion in the eighth on a sac fly by Clinton.

Jessica Jones collected three of the seven Bulldog hits. Smith drove in two runs. Sydney Lang pitched well in defeat.
