VALLEY CENTER — McPherson High sent a JV tennis team to Valley Center on Saturday, taking fifth place.
Newton won the title, with Wichita Northwest and Maize tying for second. Also ahead of MHS was Valley Center.
“We started off well, with three of our four entries winning (in the) first-round,” MHS coach Noah Lindfors said. “We fought very hard all day and hung in there toe-to-toe, even in the matches we lost by a large margin. We had many advantage games that could have gone our way, but unfortunately didn't. Overall, I am very pleased with effort and better attention towards strategic play rather than just getting the ball in.”
The Bullpups split up the usual doubles team of Jackson Schrader and Rhett Edmonson as they played singles, with Schrader taking fourth and Edmonson sixth.
In doubles, Thomas Smith and Trey Hett were 2-2 for seventh place, and Aaron Carlson and Taylor Miller were 1-3 for 12th.
