It was a survival of the fittest on Monday in the Derby Invitational Golf Tournament at Derby Country Club.

And the fittest of the fit proved to be McPherson High senior Jacob Lackey.

Lackey won his first individual tournament of the season with an 82, as near 40-mile-per hour winds made playing conditions virtually impossible. He won by 4 shots and only three golfers in the entire field were able to break 90.

McPherson High had its top team finish of the year by taking third, trailing only Arkansas City and Maize.

Other scores for the Bullpups were Drew Labertew (95), Tyler Hoxie (96), Colten Geren (101), Hayes Schmid (102) and Brock Malm (105).

The Bullpups compete Friday in the Hutchinson Invitational, which generally draws 36 teams.
