The City of McPherson was recently ranked 48th out of 500 as one of America’s “Most Pet Friendly Cities” in a report compiled by Millennial Personal Finance (MPF). The list was completed after evaluating more than 5,000 cities with a population greater than 10,000. According to MPF sources, 500 cities were recognized for providing the friendliest environment for well-deserving pets. Each city was ranked based on three parameters, including pet services, pet health establishments and pet essentials. Criteria included walking, training, washing, grooming and boarding services; veterinarians, hospitals and animal shelters; and parks, food retail stores and pet stores.
McPherson’s ranking coincided with the community’s recent opening of Bremyer Dog Park, a destination designed for residents and visitors to socialize and play with their dogs. Three acres donated by the City and a $25,000 gift in memory of a local family provided start-up funds for the park’s development. Additional donations and many community volunteer hours resulted in a beautiful dog-friendly rest area featuring grassy areas, shelters and irrigation. Located directly off Interstate 135, Bremyer Dog Park is a convenient location for visitors and their furry travelers to take a break.
The dog park is located on Centennial drive just passed the intersection of Centennial and Avenue A.
