HESSTON — The Hesston Swathers improved their softball record to 5-7 on Tuesday by taking both ends of a twinbill from Nickerson.
It’s been quite an improvement season for Hesston, as it was winless last year.
The Swathers won the first game 7-3 after being down 2-0 early. Alana Dunlavy and Mackenzie Koehn stroked three hits apiece, and Kinsley Miller and Makayla Russell added two apiece.
Kayla Ewart allowed only two earned runs and fanned seven in going the distance for the victory. She walked only one.
The Swathers pounded out 14 hits in Game 2 to spark a 6-2 win, with four runs in the fourth inning deciding the outcome.
Miller and Emma Krehbiel collected three hits apiece. Dunlavy and Russell contributed two apiece. Kyler Evancho was the winning pitcher, allowing only three hits in six innings.
