CHENEY — Hesston High’s golf team found itself in a top-notch field for the Wichita Collegiate Invitational, taking eighth out of 12 teams 0n Wednesday.
The Swathers shot a 334 in cool and windy conditions. State championship contenders Andover Central and arch-rival Andover tied for first with Central being deemed the champion by virtue of a best fifth score. Valley Center was a close third with 308.
Andover’s Zach Sokolosky and Kapaun’s Matthew Schrock shot 71s for medalist honors, with Sokolosky winning the playoff.
Jordan Roth had his best tournament of the year for Hesston with a team-best 77, one stroke better than teammate Grant Brenneman. Roth tied for 12th and Brenneman tied for 16th.
Other Hesston scores were Tanner Bachman (88), Kitt Regier (91), Trevor Koehn (92) and Tyler Bachman (95).
