190TH AIR REFUELING WING HOSTS 50/60/70 ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE
An Open House celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 190th Air Refueling Wing at Forbes Field, 60th anniversary of the Kansas Air National Guard, and the 70th birthday of the United States Air Force is scheduled Saturday, May 6 from 3 to 9:30 p.m. at Forbes Field Air National Guard Base, Topeka. The 50/60/70 Anniversary Open House will be hosted by the 190th ARW in partnership with the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority. It will take place on their shared flight line between Forbes Field Air National Guard Base and The Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority.
“The 190th Air Refueling Wing is honored to open our gates to the public,” said Col. Jarrod K. Frantz, 190th Air Refueling Wing Commander. “This Open House gives us an opportunity to showcase our rich history, and celebrate our commitment to the community, state and nation which we proudly serve.”
Family-friendly activities at the open house include aircraft displays, shop showcases, Topeka Public Schools JROTC exposition, local bands, children’s activities, food vendors and a fireworks display.
Static aircraft displays and fly-overs include the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt, Boeing C-17 Globemaster, Lockheed C-130 Hercules, Douglas C-47 Skytrain, Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, Beech SNB-5 Twin Beech Model 18, Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker and other aircraft provided by the Topeka Combat Air Museum and the Kansas Wing Civil Air Patrol.
Local bands performing at the open house include Sierra at 5:30 p.m., Cleveland Blues at 7 p.m., and True North at 8:30 p.m.
Parking is free at the Topeka Regional Airport and free shuttles will be provided by Topeka Metro from airport parking to the event location on the shared flight line.
