KCAC men’s tennis regular-season champion McPherson College carted home a truckload of honors today as conference awards were released.
The Bulldogs’ Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez was tabbed Player of the Year, while teammate Hector Carrillo-Perales was named Scholar Athlete of the Year. Carrillo-Perales also joined Rodriguez on the first team, along with another Bulldog, Ahmed Lahlou.
Bethany’s Juan Mateus also made the first team. Southwestern's Franco Poi and Tabor’s Illia Filanchuk completed the first team.
Poi was awarded Freshman of the Year, Edward Sengai of Bethany College was named Newcomer of the Year and Michael Moody of Kansas Wesleyan University earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Bethany’s Tony Swiantek was named Coach of the Year by his peers after leading his Swedes to a 12-6 overall and 7-1 KCAC record, second to McPherson College.
Bethany had two second-team picks, Teodor Anteij and Aaron Moses. Mac had a pair of honorable mention selections in Nicholas Wahl and Juan Alejandro Jimenez.
