BUHLER — McPherson High’s JV tennis team dominated the AVCTL Division III-IV Tournament on Thursday, winning three of four divisions to capture the team championship.

MHS scored 64 points to outlast Wichita Collegiate, which scored 57. Buhler was third with 54.

Aaron Carlson was the No. 1 singles champion with a 3-0 record, while both doubles teams also secured titles. Jackson Schrader and Rhett Edmonson played No. 1 and Trey Hett and Thomas Smith played No. 2. Both teams were 3-0 on the day.

Zach Wash took fourth at No. 2 singles, going 1-2.

“Well, it's easy to say it was a good day when the results come out like this, but we truly played the best I have seen us play all year,” MHS JV coach Noah Lindfors said. “Not only were we calm and collected during pressure situations, we were still aggressive when the opportunity arose. We made it a point to not give them second chances when we had the momentum in the point. We had way fewer unforced errors and I felt that we forced errors on the opponent. I am very proud and pleased for the seniors (Hett and Smith), who ended their season with a first place. They have put in a solid commitment the last 4 years and are very deserving of their victory today. I don't believe we have ever won JV league (not for a long time if we have), so to win with true conviction, is a great feeling.”
