Padgett wins Hesston Invite with blazing 64

HESSTON — Auburn signee Wells Padgett of Maize South tore it up Thursday at Hesston Municipal Golf Course to win the Swather Invitational.

Padgett shot a 7-under-par 64 to win medalist honors by 6 strokes over Rose Hill’s Peyton Austin, who broke par by a stroke. Southeast of Saline’s Jeff Huffaker matched par at 71 to take third place.

Maize South won the team title with a 295, with Trinity Academy second with 308.

The host Swathers shot a 328 to take seventh. There were 16 teams in all.

Grant Brenneman led the Swathers with a 79, while Jordan Roth shot an 81. Other Swather scores were Tanner Bachman (84), Tyler Bachman (84), Kitt Regier (90) and Landon Spencer (90).
