PRATT — Pratt and Smoky Valley swapped one-run baseball victories on Friday as the Vikings may have played their best game of the year in the nightcap.
The Vikings, keyed by a five-run second inning, won that second game 6-5 to gain the split. Zach Able was 3 for 4, while Ben Weldy and Garrett Forsberg had two hits apiece. Jordin Foth contributed a double
Able was the winning pitcher.
Pratt had walked it off 5-4 in Game 1 by scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth. This was a tough one for the Vikes to swallow as they had scored singletons in each of the first four innings to forge ahead 4-0. Pratt, though, scored a run in the fourth and fifth, and two in the seventh as the Vikes couldn’t close it out in the final inning of regulation.
Brett Heitschmidt was 3 for 5 to lead the Vikings and Ben Weldy had two hits. Ryan Weldy took the loss.
Smoky Valley is 4-9 on the season and goes to Lyons on Tuesday.
