LINDSBORG — Smoky Valley rode a 1-2 finish in doubles to outlast Hesston for the championship of the Ron Dahlsten Tennis Classic on Tuesday.
The Vikes’ top doubles team of Nick Reinert and Johann Rauchholz outlasted teammates Cole Brumbaugh and Seth Yenni 8-6 in the finals.
The Vikings scored 56 points to outlast Hesston, which scored 54. Abilene was a close third with 52.
Hesston received a second in singles from Logan Gamble and a third from Jorge Morales. In doubles, the team of Mason Barber and Isaac Decker took third while Daniel Casimir and Brendn Boles were ninth.
“All in all a good day,” said Hesston coach Mark Dahlsten, whose father is whom the tournament is named for. “We competed hard and the kids looked good. I would like to have found a couple of more teams points as I always like to win my Dad’s tournament, but I won’t complain.”
