LINDSBORG — Larned dealt Smoky Valley a pair of baseball setbacks on Thursday, one game being close and the other wasn’t.
The Vikings suffered a heart-breaking 8-7 loss in Game 1. They scored three runs in the sixth to pull within a run, but couldn’t get it tied up.
Brett Heitschmidt was 3 for 4 with a triple to lead the Vikings. Ben Weldy had two hits, one a double, and Kyle Anderson also had two hits. Austin Golden furnished a double.
It was all Larned in Game 2 as it used innings of seven and six runs to key a 16-2 victory. No Viking had an extra-base hit or multiple-hit game.
Smoky Valley goes to Hillsboro on Tuesday.
