EL DORADO — McPherson High’s softball team seems to bring out the best in its opponents.

The Bullpups lost two games to El Dorado on Thursday, 12-2 in the opener and 8-2 in the nightcap.

The Bullpups sank to 2-10 on the season and have no rest, as they are home today to host Augusta in a pair of make-up games at Grant Complex. First pitch is 4:00.

El Dorado pounded out 11 hits in Game 1. Brooke Schrag, Bailea Crist and Sheridan Scott, the first three hitters in the order, had two apiece for the Bullpups.

“El Dorado’s hitting and our fielding lost Game 1,” MHS coach Danica Fitzmorris said. “We were unable to make the routine plays with eight errors. We came out swinging to go ahead in the first 2-0 and then lost our momentum leaving several on base after that. On the contrary El Dorado was error-free in the field and hit the ball very well.”

Game 2 didn’t deviate from the script as MHS’ lone highlight was an over-the-fence homer by Gracy Feil.

“Game 2 was much of the same with fewer errors (3) in the field, but inconsistent hitting from our side and leaving seven on base hurts us a lot,” Fitzmorris said.

The MHS JVs also lost a pair, 12-8 in Game 1 and 14-10 in the nightcap.

Ariana Potter and Morgan Jones had three hits in the first game to lead the Bullpups, and Katelyn Guffey, Arynn Almquist and Brittani Burgess all had two hits. Almquist drove in two runs. The Bullpups had 10 more hits in Game 2, with Potter and Jones both going 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Almquist had two hits and two RBIs. Sally Boese also had two hits.

“The girls fought hard and never gave up tonight,” MHS coach Lacey Morgan said. “We hit the ball about as well as we have all year, especially Ariana Potter and Arynn Almquist. We have to eliminate the one inning in each game where we give them baserunners through errors and then see the other team come up with big hits. Credit to El Dorado, they hit the ball hard and deep quite a bit.”
