HILLSBORO — Hesston High’s boys tennis team qualified both its doubles teams for state and a singles entry as well during the Class 3-2-1A Regional hosted by Hillsboro that wrapped up Friday.
Logan Gamble advanced in singles after going 2-2 for fourth place. He ran into probable state champion Stratton Brown in the semifinals and while he lost, Hesston coach Mark Dahlsten said he made Brown work for his points.
Daniel Casimir lost his only singles match.
In doubles, Jorge Morales and Jeb Carlson were 2-2 for fourth, while Mason Barber and Isaac Decker were 2-2 as they grabbed the sixth and final spot.
“I told the guys heading into this regional that we just wanted to find a way to qualify and we were able to get three out of four entires in,” Dahlsten said.
It was an especially strong field as Sterling took first with 22, Trinity Catholic was second with 20 and Hesston was third with 10. Sterling qualified its entire team.
State is next Friday and Saturday in Garden City.
