For those looking for a sporting event to attend on All Schools Day, McPherson College Stadium is the place to be.
McPherson High, for one of the few times ever, will be hosting the AVCTL Division III Championships on Friday.
The action gets under way at 3 p.m.
The MHS girls are expected to be at or near the top of the team standings, provided their usual standouts turn in their customary performances.
“Our girls have a chance to win the whole thing,” MHS coach Jace Pavlovich said. “We don't have a whole lot of depth, which really hurts us in smaller meets such as this one. Buhler is going to challenge us on the girls’ side. Their girls team is 3-deep at every event. I am not sure about the rest of the teams in our league. We don't ever see any of them with exception of El Dorado.”
The Bullpups’ points have been coming in chunks. Elle Barrett and Kenzie Goering give MHS big points in the field events, while Morgan Howard and Emma Ruddle have big-point potential on the track.
There will be little suspense on the boys’ side, according to Pavlovich.
“Buhler will literally and figuratively run away with it,” Pavlovich said. “They are one of the strongest teams in the state. Look for them to get on the podium at the state level. Again, outside of El Dorado, I’m not sure what to expect out of the other teams.”
MHS will probably score its big points in the field events. Andric McGill and Devin Cape should fare well in the jumps, as should shot putters Britton Bate and Jared Ruth.
