Brains and talent. What a combination.
McPherson College junior tennis players Madison Hoffman and Hector Carrillo Perales have been named to the Academic All-District At-Large Teams for College Division District 3 by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced Thursday.
Hoffman is 19-14 overall for the No. 22-ranked Bulldogs, who face No. 11 University of Mobile on Tuesday in the first round of the NAIA Women's National Championships. She has gone 7-9 in singles (including 4-4 at No. 5) and paired with Deiah Curtis for a 12-5 record in doubles (7-2 at the No. 3 spot).
Carrillo has a 33-11 combined mark for the No. 21 McPherson men, who play San Diego Christian on Tuesday in the first round of the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship. He has an 18-5 record in singles, primarily at the No. 3 spot, where he went 9-2. He has also paired with Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez to post a 15-6 mark in doubles, including an 8-3 mark at the No. 1 spot.
Hoffman has a 4.00 GPA with a double major in communication and graphic design, while Carrillo has a 3.96 GPA with a major in business.
The pair advance to their respective CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballots, where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
