GOESSEL — Canton-Galva’s girls track and field team came away with a couple of champions in the Wheat State League Championships on Thursday.
Tia Moddelmog won the pole vault in 8-6 and Katie Fiedler captured the 100 meters in 13.24.
Moddelmog tied for third in the high jump and was fourth in the triple jump for a fine all-around day. Fiedler was sixth in the 200.
Dylan Wood was the top Eagle male finisher, taking second in the 400 with a PR of 53.15.
The Eagles go to Herington for their regional next Friday.
“The team has been working on getting into peak condition for regionals next week in hopes of qualifying several athletes for the state meet,” C-G coach Tina McMannis said. “Katie Fiedler and Maddie Snow qualified in multiple events last year and each won one medal at state, so their goal is to end up back in Wichita again this year. Dylan Wood has shown great improvement this year in the 400 and has put himself in a position to contend for a state-qualifying spot at regionals also.”
