CLAY CENTER — McPherson High senior golfer Jacob Lackey easily qualified for next week's Class 4A State  Tournament by placing fourth on Monday in the regional at Clay Center.

Lackey qualified as an individual with a 3-over-par 71. Mason Ahlberg of Clay Center took advantage of his home course for a sizzling 65 to win medalist honors, while Cooper Spears of Wamego was second with 66. Brennen Acree of Concordia also broke 70 with a 69.

McPherson had four players shoot a 92 — Colton Geren, Tyler Hoxie, Drew Labertew and Brock Malm. Kyler Hoppes shot a 106 to round out the Bullpup scores.

Wamego was the team champion and Topeka Hayden was the other team to qualify. The Bullpups were fifth out of nine teams.

Next week's state tournament is, by the way, at Wamego where Lackey was the regional medalist last year with a 67.
