Cutting earns 2nd-team All-State

TOPEKA — McPherson High’s Megan Cutting placed in two Championship Finals individual events on Saturday in the Kansas State Swimming and Diving Class 5-1A Championships.

Cutting was seventh in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:11.98. She was eighth in the 200 individual medley in 2:20.25. She earned second-team All-State honors.

Also in the finals for the Bullpups was their 200 freestyle relay team of Maggie Leaf, Cassie Cooks, Hope Williams and Cutting. They were 21st at the start of the tournament, but qualified seventh and that’s where they finished on Saturday in a time of 1:49.91.

The 200 medley relay team of Leaf, Cutting, Cooks and Macy Hubbard placed 16th in the Consolation Bracket as it equaled its qualifying place. The Bullpups had a time of 2:06.86. Hubbard was in place of Amanda Starkel, who had swam on Friday but had graduation on Saturday.

MHS scored 49 points to take 17th out of the 30 teams that scored. Miege was first with 289, followed by Aquinas with 234. Blue Valley Southwest was third with 210.
