WAMEGO — McPherson High golfer Jacob Lackey shook off a slow start on Monday in the Class 4A State Tournament to earn a tie for 15th place at Wamego Country Club.

Lackey shot an 82 after starting 6-over-par after 4 holes.

Lackey played most of his front nine in a steady rain and conditions were wet throughout the day. There was even a lightning delay during the meet.

It was the conclusion to an outstanding career for Lackey, who won a league championship, a regional championship and was a three-time AVCTL first-team member in his four years. He will be playing next year at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Augusta's Jake Becker won a three-way playoff to earn medalist honors with a 75. Andover Central and Wichita Trinity tied for the team title, with Andover Central deemed the winner by virtue of the best fifth score.
