Give McPherson College men’s soccer coach Doug Quint credit, patsies need not apply to play the Bulldogs.
Quint has put together the most ambitious schedule in Mac history as the Bulldogs will play three non-conference games against ranked opponents this fall as well as another game against a team that earned votes in the final poll.
"This is by far the toughest non-conference schedule during my tenure here at McPherson," Quint said. "During the month of September we will have our work cut out for us. Our goal was to put together a schedule that would prepare us for conference play and we certainly did that. We will learn a lot about ourselves early that will pay huge dividends for us on down the road.”
The Bulldogs open the regular season with an immediate donnybrook as 10th-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University visits McPherson on Aug. 26.
McPherson College then ventures to Aberdeen, S.D., to participate in the Presentation College Labor Day Classic, where it will play the host Saints (Sept. 2) and University of Great Falls (Sept. 4) that finished in the top half of the table in the rugged Cascade Collegiate Conference in 2016.
Home games against receiving votes Columbia College (Sept. 9) and University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (Sept. 21) will be sandwiched around a trip to Fremont, Neb., to face No. 14 Midland University as the non-league slate wraps up. USAO, the only holdover from McPherson's 2016 non-league schedule, finished tied for third in the Sooner Athletic Conference and topped the Bulldogs, 2-0, last year in Chickasha, Okla., and has had Mac’s number in the series.
The Bulldogs then get into KCAC play, with the highlight an Oct. 14 match at nationally ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan.
