May is Motorcycle Awareness Month and McPherson KS Police Department is encouraging our community to #ShareTheRoad

MOTORCYCLIST FACT: In 2015, 42% of fatally injured motorcyclists in single vehicle crashes and 49 % of motorcycle drivers killed at night (9 p.m.-6 a.m.) had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at or above 0.08%. DON'T DRIVE OR RIDE IMPAIRED.

DRIVER FACT: Improper use of a vehicle’s rear-view and side-view mirrors contributes to collisions, particularly with smaller vehicles like motorcycles. Roughly 40% of a vehicle’s outer perimeter zones are hidden by blind spots. Improperly adjusting or not using side-view mirrors has deadly consequences for cyclists. LOOK TWICE, SAVE A LIFE.

STOP. Stop all forward motion at any marked intersection.

THINK. Slow down your decision making process & consider your surroundings carefully.

OBSERVE. Scan for all roadway users: pedestrians, motorcyclists, & drivers.

PROCEED. Drive or ride on with caution.
