NORTH NEWTON — Tony Hoops is going to be a busy man.
In addition to his current job as Bethel College men’s basketball coach, Hoops has been named as the school’s athletic director. He replaces Kent Allhouse, who resigned after six years in the position.
Bethel Interim President John Sheriff added that the position of athletic director has been redefined so that the duties now come under two separate job descriptions.
"I want to thank Kent for his six years of service to Bethel," said Sheriff, "during which time he coached track and cross country, served as athletic director and vice president for athletics, and promoted the athletic department with the creation of several programs such as cheer and the athletic band."
In addition to Hoops, Vice President for Admissions Andy Johnson will now oversee coaches' recruitment activity, leading them in goal setting, motivation and evaluation and reassessing scholarship policies.
"I'm excited for the future of Bethel College athletics, and the opportunities that exist not only within my new position, but more importantly the opportunities for our department as a whole to be successful," Hoops said. "The vision that Interim President John Sherriff and Andy Johnson share with me creates a renewed enthusiasm about the future success of Bethel College."
