MANHATTAN — Mark Reifschneider said Thursday’s 13-1 loss by the McPherson Senior American Legion baseball team against Bellevue West of Nebraska in the season opener won’t be an indicator of the season.
“It's been a couple weeks since our kids have played a game and really only had one practice in those 2 weeks,” Reifschneider said. “We showed a little rust today. We also had some key players missing. I was proud of the kids for battling through this one.”
Bellevue jumped on Post 24 for five runs in the first inning and kept up its offensive prowess throughout.
“We ran into a really good team today. Bellevue was very solid throughout the lineup and also pitched very well,” Reifschneider said.
Raine Reitsma took the loss. Jack Reifschneider, Trey Hanken and Gunnar Reiss also toiled.
Post 24 was held to two hits, one a double by Reifschneider. Zane Myers had the RBI.
McPherson plays two more games in Manhattan on Saturday.
