14 Lady Express captures title

HUTCHINSON — The McPherson Under-14 Lady Express girls softball team had a terrific weekend by taking first place in the Band of Sisters Tournament at Fun Valley.

Here is a summary:

• Lady Express 13, Aces 3 — Brette Doile was stellar on the mound, fanning five while walking just two. The team picked up 12 hits, with Brianna Russell coming up with a triple, while Holli Giddings and Jacie Myers stroked doubles. Doile, Olivia Morgan and Ashlon Stanford all had two hits.

• Lady Express 4, Intensity 2 — Sally Boese was in charge on the mound with a consistent effort. Katie Dix drove in a pair of runs to highlight the offense.

• Bombers 7, Lady Express 6 — Despite an 8-3 advantage in hits, the Express lost their first game. Dix and Megan Everhart hit doubles.

• G2 Heat 2, Express 0 — The Express was silenced on just one hit, that by Doile. She also took the loss despite pitching a solid game.

• Lady Express 9, Aces 2 — McPherson began the climb back with five runs in the first inning. Doile earned the win on the mound and the offense came in the form of a double by Everhart and two hits by Alexa Burch. Everhart and Cameron Pelzel had two RBIs apiece.

• Lady Express 7, Elite 4 – The first inning was again gold for McPherson, piling up five runs. Boese was the winner and Doile earned the save. Morgan and Burch hit doubles and Morgan finished with two hits and two RBIs. Burch and Malyia Paine also had two RBIs.

• Lady Express 7, Intensity 3 — Five runs in the first inning seemed to be the Express’ MO. Everhart was tops on the team with two hits.

In a tourney note, Doile was named the MVP of the event.
