Banman pleased with Aqua Pups in 1st meet

McPherson Aqua Pups coach Kyle Banman said the sheer volume of swimmers was too much for his team to overcome here Tuesday.

Defending Great Plains Swimming League champion Haysville, which had 116 swimmers, outscored McPherson 389-304 at the Water Park, but Banman came away pleased with the 54 ‘Pups who competed.

“I loved the energy and excitement the kids brought and we had a lot of really nice swims,” Banman said. “As a coaching staff, we were really impressed not only with the performance in the water, but how they were rooting each other on, no matter what age group.  Just a really amazing display of sportsmanship and that family atmosphere that we have.”

Here are some highlights, according to Banman:

Championship qualifying swims (Missouri Valley Championships - held in Columbia Missouri later in July):

• Matthew Powers - 50 Free and 100 Breast

• William Powers - 50 Free

• The 15 and over 200 Free relay of Justus Hampton, Silas Steinert, Isaac Duran, and William Powers.

District qualifying swims (Missouri Valley Districts - held in Wichita later in July):

• Danica Brunk - 50 Free, 50 Back and 100 Free

• Hailey Cutting - 50 Free, 100 Back and 100 Breast

• Isaac Duracn - 50 Free

• Hayden Farley - 50 Fly and 50 Breast

• Justus Hampton - 200 Free, 100 Free and 100 Fly

• Liberty Hampton - 50 Free and 100 Free

• Marissa Pearcy - 100 Back (first in the 13-14 age group)

• Matthew Powers - 100 Breast

• William Powers - 100 Back and 200 IM

• Rece Reiman - 100 Back

• Lexi Smith - 50 Free and 50 Back

• Silas Steinert - 50 Free and 100 Back

*Carson Stone - 50 Free

• Katy Stucky - 50 Free
