SALINA — Five innings into Thursday’s baseball game with the Salina Falcons, McPherson American Legion Post 24’s Zane Myers had three RBIs.
All without the benefit of a hit.
Myers drew a pair of bases-loaded walks and hit a sac fly and his production sparked McPherson to a 7-5 road victory. Post 24 wins the regular-season series 2-1.
“We were pleased with the series win tonight,” McPherson coach Mark Reifschneider said. “We were a lot better at the plate tonight.”
Dylan Werries pitched the first four innings, with Jack Reifschneider going the final three for the save. Reifschneider had it working, fanning seven in his stint and not allowing an earned run.
“Dylan and Jack did a great job pitching,” Reifschneider said. “We were able to keep them both under 60 pitches so they will be available for our next series against Buhler starting Sunday.”
The offense complemented that pitching as a robust 11-hit attack aided the win. Reifschneider and Jeff Reed had two hits apiece and seven players had one hit as there was production up and down the lineup.
Trey Hanken drove in a pair of runs.
Post 24 led 3-1 until the fourth when Salina scored two runs to get it tied. McPherson, though, came right back with two runs in the fifth and then added singletons in the sixth and seventh. The Falcons nicked Reifschneider for a pair of unearned runs in the seventh.
Post 24’s action in Buhler on Sunday has a 4 p.m. starting time.
