BUHLER — McPherson's Senior American Legion baseball team went on the road Sunday to Buhler and lost a pair of games, as well as a couple of players to injury.
Buhler won the first game 13-3 after Post 24 had taken a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning. Jack Reifschneider and Alex Sitts wound up being injured in the game, Sitts being lost for the day while Reifschneider was able to return for Game 2.
“We were playing good baseball until the top of the fourth,” McPherson coach Mark Reifschneider said. “Jack fouled a ball off his shin and had to come out of the game. Then in the bottom of the fourth, we lost Alex Sitts to injury in an outfield collision. Everything went downhill from there. We were out of subs, so we ended up playing with two outfielders and had to take an out in Alex's spot in the order.”
McPherson was held to five hits, the only extra-base knock a double by Nathan Robl that was good for a pair of RBIs. Raine Reitsma took the loss.
The Nationals completed the sweep with a 9-4 victory in the nightcap. It was 9-0 before McPherson scored all its runs in the final inning.
Dylan Werries collected two hits and drove in two runs. Reifschneider also had two RBIs. Werries took the loss.
“We couldn't get anything going offensively,” Reifschneider said. “We hit some balls hard, but right at the defense. Buhler's pitcher did a good job.”
The teams turn around and play a single game tonight at Grant Complex, with first pitch set for 7:00. Post 24 takes a 4-5 record into the game.
