Nary a player could match even-par on Tuesday in the opening round of the 58th annual Kansas Junior Amateur Boys Golf Tournament at Turkey Creek.

Taylor Larsen, Ryan Lee and Zach Sokolosky shared the lead with 1-over-par 71s as gale-force winds and speedy greens made conditions difficult.

Daniel Gutgesell and Thomas Luger were a shot back with 72s.

As posted earlier, McPherson’s Jacob Lackey shot a 75 with rounds of 38-37 as he is in contention for a high finish.

The second round is scheduled for today, after which the field will be cut for Thursday’s final round, which has a 7:30 a.m. start. Conditions today are expected to be much better, so there could be some rounds in the 60s.

• TWO SHARE GIRLS LEAD — Julia Misemer and Megan Propeck shot matching 80s to share the first-round lead for the girls in what is billed as the 7th annual Sadie Park Sunflower Tournament.

One shot back is Madison Slyter with an 81.

There will be no cut for the girls due to a reduced field.
