NEWTON — McPherson’s Jacob Lackey got off to a rough start in today’s Kansas State Amateur Railer Open Golf Tournament at Turkey Creek.

Lackey made a triple-bogey 7 on his first hole, then steadied himself for a time before finishing with an 82.

Lackey made six pars on the front, but shot 41 because of No. 1. He shot another 41 on the back nine, but that side was derailed by making a triple-bogey on No. 13.

Lackey’s second round will be Saturday.

His playing partners, Jack Courington and Pete Krsnich both of Wichita, shot matching 77s.
