HAVEN — Moundridge’s Senior Babe Ruth baseball team needed a game to knock off the rust on Friday.
The Wildcats, who had been idle for 10 days, stumbled to a 13-2 loss against Haven in Game 1 as they were held to six hits, all singles by six different players.
But Moundridge charged back for a 10-5 doubling to gain the split. Kyle Stucky and Remington Creed drove in three runs apiece. Creed, Noah Eichelberger and Dylan Sugars all had two hits.
“I told them after the first game that we would consider that a practice that we did not have before the game and now it is time to play,” Moundridge coach Lynn Eichelberger said. “We came out swinging and pitched and fielded well. We jumped out 9-0 and never looked back. The top four hitters in the order — Noah Eichelberger, Kyle Stucky, Remington Creed and Bryant Olson — were 6 for 12 with seven RBIs and really were seeing the ball well. The highlight for me was Kyle's 2-run suicide squeeze bunt with the bases loaded scoring Trevor Kohl from third and Dylan Sugars from second, who was running on the pitch.”
Moundridge finished the regular season 6-3 and hosts the District Tournament July 6-10. The bracket will be announced at a later date.
