Mac's Quint strikes recruiting gold

Even with an expected powerhouse team coming back next season, McPherson College men’s soccer coach Doug Quint has practically recruited two more teams.

Quint on Wednesday announced the addition of 21 players for next year’s roster as competition during practice should be fierce.

Quint has tapped some of his usual gold mines, but also branched out in his recruiting as he tries to raise the Bulldogs to the next level where it can compete with any team in the nation.

The Bulldogs have been one of the top KCAC programs during his tenure as they are 78-25-8 in conference matches for 74 percent.

Mac is coming off one of its best seasons, going 15-3-3. Quint will be welcoming back six starters from a team that received votes in the final national poll.

With an eye on the present as well as the future, 13 of the newcomers are freshmen, five are transfers and three are international recruits who have played at a high level overseas.

Quint is expecting a roster of 43 players this fall.

"We are very excited to welcome these student-athletes to McPherson College," Quint said in a press release. "We believe with the addition of this recruiting class and the development of the student-athletes already in the program, we can compete for championships and NAIA Tournament berths synonymous with McPherson soccer.”

There were very few areas of weakness, but now Quint has upgraded all areas.

"We were very focused on specific needs for our team," Quint said. "We believe we have addressed them with individuals who can be impactful right away and consistently challenge our existing group to make the overall program better each and every day."
