The Phi Beta Lambda business club from Central Christian College of Kansas attended the 75th annual Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Convention in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel from June 23 to June 27, 2017.
Nearly 2,000 college students, advisors and professional members from hundreds of colleges/universities/community colleges from across the U.S. were in attendance for workshops, national and regional officer elections and national competitions in events such as Accounting, Economics, Human Resources, Marketing, Management, Statistics, etc. Students participated in a total of 61 individual and team competitive events.
The colleges and universities represented from Kansas include Central Christian College, Sterling, Emporia State, Ft. Hays, KU, Wichita State, Labette, Butler, Seward, and Flint Hills Tech. Other institutions in attendance include the University of Illinois, Peru State, William Baptist, University of Maryland, George Mason University, Florida Atlantic University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, State University of New York, Florida International University, Southeast Missouri State, University of Missouri–Columbia, Rutgers University, University of Utah, University of TX-Dallas, Illinois State, Hannibal-LaGrange, Embry-Riddle, etc.
The eight Central students competed in eleven different events advancing to the final round of fifteen competitors in nine of the eleven events and placing in the top 10 in the country in seven of the events. The seven events in which Central students placed nationally are listed here along with their placement and approximate number of competitors:

This represents the most national awards received at a single competition in the history of the chapter which was started by Professor Dean Bacon in the 1965-66 school year.
Besides competitive events, the eight Central students and two advisors enjoyed a number of challenging workshops, political rallies, and networking opportunities. The group even took in the sights of Southern California including the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a beach in Malibu, Disneyland and In-and-Out Burgers! We look forward to the next national convention in Baltimore, Maryland in the summer of 2018.
