NORTH NEWTON — For the second straight July, Bethel College is scrambling for a women’s basketball coach following the resignation Wednesday of Adam Esses.

Esses, a 2008 Bethany College graduate, has accepted an assistant’s position with an unnamed Division I program, according to a release from the Bethel College Sports Information Department.

Esses spent one year at Bethel after having been the head coach at Kaskaskia College in Illinois.

"I have truly enjoyed my time being a part of the Bethel College family. It has been great to continue my professional development at Bethel as I have gained invaluable experiences," Esses said in a release.

"While only here for a year, I commend coach Esses for the job he did given the tough situation he was in being a late hire last July,” Bethel Athletic Director Tony Hoops said. “Adam leaves the program in a better place that his successor will continue to be able to build upon. I hate to see Adam leave as a colleague and friend, but he's been granted a very unique opportunity for which I wish him the best.”

A search for Esses’ successor is under way, Hoops said.
