HUTCHINSON — McPherson’s Senior American Legion baseball team, after giving up just two runs total in the first four games of the Hutchinson Wood Bat Tournament, couldn’t stop the Wichita Aeros in the title game Sunday night, losing an 11-0 decision.
Still, it was a good weekend for McPherson, now 13-7 on the year heading into its final regular-season game Tuesday at Newton.
“Overall we had a great tournament. Through the first four games, our pitching was tremendous,” McPherson coach Mark Reifschneider said. “We started slow offensively, but got better each game until the title game.”
Post 24 trailed only 2-0 until the fifth when the Aeros scored two more runs. They put the game out of reach with six runs in the seventh.
“Even with the loss, I think we are playing better than we have all season,” Reifschneider said.
Jack Reifschneider had the only hit for McPherson in the title game. Post 24 trotted out four pitchers, with Corbin Steinert taking the loss.
