BUHLER — McPherson’s Junior American Legion baseball team ended the suspense early Friday against arch-rival Buhler.

In the game that was going to end one team’s season and prolong the other’s, McPherson struck for nine first-inning runs and rolled to a 13-5 victory in the zone tournament elimination game.

McPherson, now 19-8, plays Great Bend today and must win or the Braves advance to state. Post 24 needs two wins to advance as the Braves have yet to lose in the double-elimination event. Great Bend won the first meeting between the teams, 11-9.

McPherson coach Heath Gerstner said he was pleased with his team’s start after it had gotten off slowly against Great Bend on Thursday.

Devin Feil was 3 for 4 to pace the offense, while Kourtney Craig and Chandler Wiard drove in two runs apiece. Jakob Feil was the winning pitcher.
