BUHLER — McPherson's Junior American Legion baseball team forced an extra championship game against Great Bend on Saturday in the Class A Zone Tournament, but it couldn't complete the sweep.

After Post 24 used a nine-run fifth inning to rally for a 10-7 victory in the first championship game to remain alive, the Braves used three big innings to capture the nightcap, 12-3.

In the first game, McPherson trailed 5-1 when it scored nine runs in that explosive fifth. The Braves did score two in the final inning.

Gabe Hoover was the winning pitcher.

In the deciding game, Great Bend scored four in the first, five in the sixth and another in the seventh to pull away.

More will be posted later.
